The UK’s new Labour government has unashamedly put economic growth at the heart of its policy agenda. As such, it has prioritised investment in infrastructure as one of the key elements needed to transform the nation’s ability to function effectively and create the right environment for improved living standards
The latest King’s Speech in July set out the government’s legislative agenda and underlined Labour’s ambitious plans to “get Britain building”. This will see new action to reform planning, accelerate the delivery of high quality energy, transport and water infrastructure, and kickstart the struggling house-building sector.
In fact, of the 39 bills introduced in this parliamentary session, at least a dozen will have a direct impact on the infrastructure sector and should translate into huge opportunity for the construction industry supply chain. But the devil is, of course, in the detail; questions remain around what all this promise of investment and change actually means in terms of boosting activity across the UK construction sector.
This latest live TwinTalks breakfast discussion will feature an exclusive interview with new Construction Minister Sarah Jones, which will tease out more detail about how the government intends to support the industry towards delivering government’s ambitious plan for infrastructure.
The interview will be led by industry journalist and host of the Infrastructure Podcast Antony Oliver, who will explore the minister’s thoughts on the new government’s strategy for getting Britain building. This will include detail on how it intends to work with the supply chain to help boost delivery efficiency and embrace digital tools to transform the management and operation of assets across their lifecycle.
