Mark Coates is a recognised leader in infrastructure policy and digital transformation, serving as Bentley’s Vice President of Infrastructure Policy Advancement. In this role, Mark collaborates with governments, policymakers, and industry leaders globally to champion the adoption of cutting-edge digital solutions, driving efficiency and innovation in infrastructure development.
With over three decades of experience in construction and global project delivery, Mark’s career began as a quantity surveyor before expanding to roles with leading organisations, including Thames Water, United Utilities, ICI, Highways England, the Olympic Delivery Authority, and Crossrail.
Over the past decade, he has focused on digital transformation, leveraging technology to enhance project outcomes and deliver value across time, cost, and quality metrics.
Mark’s commitment to advancing the industry is evident through his affiliations. He is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation as well as the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Over the last few years, Mark has held the positions of vice-chairman and chairman of the British Water Forum and currently serves as their International Forum Chair. Mark serves on the Strategic Board of the UK’s Digital Twin Hub, is a member of the advisory board for the Institute of Government and Public Policy, and is part of the Inspiring Engineering Excellence Community Advisory Board for the ICE.
Mark also serves as a trustee of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors and is a member of the CICES Council of Management.
